Bowdoin (James) House is built.

June 3, 1756

Bowdoin purchases his father-in-law’s estate. and adds to the house of Capt. James Erving at today’s 21 Beacon Street. Gen. John Burgoyne occupies the house during the Siege of Boston, and George Washington is later a visitor. After Bowdoin’s death in 1790, the property remains in the family. The house is torn down in 1836. The property subdivided in 1843 and houses built on the individual lots in 1844.*
